BARBARA DUNN
"My Biography"

SANTA FE, TEXAS -
Writing poetry at thirteen was a breeze for a West Virginia teen, who was caught up in puppy love and stars in her eyes. Yes, that was many years ago ... a little over forty years, and since that time the words still flow from mind to pen to paper.

I never imagined that time would have those words and thoughts of others being put to music and played around the world being on my own record label (that I named "BJD WISHING AWAY"). Catching myself singing along to radio favorites throughout the years have helped my imagination put the words into the main stream.

I was born Barbara Jean Hess in the mountains of West Virginia. Mama was a writer of songs and poetry. Maybe she passed some of it on to me, or maybe the Lord gave it to me to help deal with life, stress, love and pain of those years of growing. Whatever the reason, I do write and my songs have blessed me over and over.

I started my label "BJD" in 1989 and now have over 200 of those songs on CD. I cannot recall one that has not been played somewhere, sometime, by somebody, and the playlists are stacked to the ceiling - not the royalty checks, just the playlists.

I am a BMI writer and publisher, and, with over $20,000 invested in my music, I have received about $600 in royalties. So you don't get in the business for the sake of a dollar. In fact, this is not a complaint. I did not write songs for money, but for the love of the words, the times, the places, the sights and sounds of the beats I was surrounded by.

I'm famous around the globe, known as a good songwriter and a singer who can not sing as good as she writes ... but I carry a decent tune and the sincerity makes up for the singing part a bit.

I came to Texas on 1961, married Walter Dunn and became Barbara Dunn, was widowed in 1991. But, I guess, I will forever be BJD to the DJs. The music business has been a blessing - the friendships have been the real gain. The loyalty with which Ed King and master engineer Don Powell have given me has given essence to the words I have penned. Mr King releases my songs on his EHK music label also for worldwide airplay.

I will always write and I have faith in the Lord that He will continue to bless me with a future of songs to inspire and witness for Him. Most of what I write now is a tribute to Texas. I Have four new tributes to Texas and Willie. and six new gospel songs to my faith in what God sends me daily. For I am truly Blessed. I have been dueting my songs and a few of EHK songs with Loman Craig, George Zeigler, T. J. Murr, and Tim Lovell, Ray Jones, Mae Black, but there will always be a special place in my heart for the artists that sang my songs in the 90's and got BJD on the road to success some being Ronnie Willms, Jeannie Qualls, Joyce Greaney, Polly Hutt, Tom Stanko and Elaine K, Paulette Tyler also Don Powell, Don Sandifer.

You may write me or e-mail me with questions, for fun, friendship and music. THANKS SO MUCH! may GOD RICHLY BLESS YOU AND YOUR CAREER
